Lowering the Cost of Living

Ida knows families across our region are being squeezed by the rising cost of housing, groceries, healthcare, and everyday necessities. As a working mom, she faces those same challenges every day. That's why she'll fight to crack down on corporate price gouging, expand affordable housing, and bring in more high-paying jobs to lower the cost of living for local families.

Families in the 36th District are working long hours and many hold multiple jobs, yet they still can't get ahead because wages haven't kept up with the rising cost of rent, groceries, gas, and childcare. Utility bills in California are among the highest in the country, and Ida will oppose efforts to let utility companies pass more of their costs on to customers. In the Assembly, she will also push for stronger penalties on corporations that hurt consumers by repeatedly breaking state laws.

Housing is one of the biggest costs families carry, and rising rents and limited supply are putting homeownership and other housing options out of reach for working families and seniors. As a member of the Imperial City Council, Ida has supported programs that expand access to affordable housing. In the Assembly, she will work to increase the supply of affordable homes, including low-income and farmworker housing and new homes near public transit, while protecting renters from displacement and keeping new housing affordable over the long term.
